stc extends 630 km of optical fiber covering land port between KSA & Oman

The land port between Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman was recently launched between Al Bat-ha region in Al-Ahsa and Umm Al-Zamoul at the Omani borders in a desert location with tough and unique terrains, was covered by stc’s technical skills.

Through ten local contractors, the project connected the fiber-optic network along the route, where network coverage reached 100 percent and was deployed as a support for local content. More than 80 high-tech tools and equipment were used, and more than 1500 employees and technicians worked around the clock to complete the cabling operations, which totaled more than 590 kilometers and 630 km of fiber-optic cables.

The project was carried out in a number of locations along the route, all of which are known for their challenging and demanding terrains, which can be difficult to work on in some cases.

This project, which involved connecting 40 mobile towers with optical fibers in a record time of 180 days, is considered one of stc’s larger undertakings. The land port service and the organizations that work in it use cutting-edge technology and operate at high speeds capable of handling 100 GB of data.
