talabat launches several charitable initiatives this Ramadan to provide customers with various donation options as part of its commitment to support the communities it serves in the UAE. Having facilitated the donation of over AED 577,000, including 140,000 charitable food and medicine deliveries made through the app across the Emirates in 2020, talabat joins forces with governmental participating entities and local and international trusted charity organisations to utilise its platform for good again this year.

Philanthropy and altruism have always been deeply embedded values in the UAE’s culture, especially during the holy month that promotes giving back and charitable work. By leveraging its platform, talabat is enabling customers to donate to local and international charities, as well as appreciate hard-working riders safely through its app, keeping in line with the company’s mission and the UAE Vision 2021 .

Jérémy Doutté, Vice President UAE at talabat commented “We are humbled by the spirit of giving that we have seen in the UAE through our platform, and we couldn’t be prouder to join forces with governmental entities, as well as local and international charities including Dubai Culture, Emirates Red Crescent, Authority, UAE Food Bank, Dubai Cares, UNHCR and most recently World Food Programme. Such partnerships share a very common goal, which is to support the people in need which is at the heart of talabat’s mission.”

He added: “Last year, over 140,000 charitable food and medicine deliveries were made through the talabat app in the UAE and we cannot emphasise enough the important role our customers played in enabling us to create such an impact. Through Ramadan Heroes’ first edition in 2020, over 50,000 meals were provided to support the communities we operate in, and I am looking forward to seeing the impact we will create this year, not only to those in need, but also to our super heroes – our talabat riders”.

Customers can select any of the below options to donate this Ramadan:

World Food Programme (WFP) Partnership

This year, talabat announced a region-wide partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), the largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger, to deliver food assistance to underprivileged communities. All donations provided to WFP will be directed to operations supporting those most in need throughout the Middle East, such as Syria and Yemen. Community members will be able to donate through the talabat app in two ways:

  1. As part of the #AlwaysThere meal donation initiative to help fight hunger in the Middle East: With every food order placed by customers during iftar each Sunday, talabat will be donating the value of a meal to WFP.
  2. Customers will also be able to donate to WFP by selecting “World Food Programme” on the talabat app and following the steps presented to donate meals to underprivileged communities in the Middle East. Pre-set donations amounts start from AED 2.

“Ramadan Heroes” Campaign

Following 2020’s ‘Ramadan Heroes’ campaign that honoured labourers and underprivileged people in the UAE, talabat announced the launch of the second, expanded version of the campaign under the patronage of Dubai Culture and in cooperation with Emirates Red Crescent Authority (ERC) and UAE Food Bank

This initiative invites community members to contribute by purchasing Iftar meals or providing Ramadan boxes of food supplies through talabat, which will be safely delivered in cooperation with ERC and UAE Food Bank to beneficiaries’ houses across the Emirates in the absence of free Iftar tents this Ramadan due to health and safety preventive measures. Community members can participate in the campaign by downloading the talabat app, selecting ‘Ramadan Heroes,’ and following the steps presented to donate talabat Mart boxes with staple food items or an iftar meal.

Loyalty program donations through talabat Rewards

During late 2020, talabat launched its reward program – talabat Rewards – that allows customers to take advantage of offers and discounts and donate to charitable organisations by redeeming points collected. Customers can choose to donate redeemed reward points toward Dubai Cares school meal projects, part of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), to support school-aged children in the Middle East or help refugees in the MENA region with basic food supplies through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

talabat customers can donate by visiting the Rewards feature on the app and selecting one of the causes under the “Make a difference” section and redeeming the points toward their cause of choice.

talabat rider appreciation

Additionally, talabat upgraded its cashless tipping feature ahead of Ramadan in an effort to offer customers a simpler way to show appreciation towards riders. Since cashless tipping was launched in 2020, the feature enabled over AED 435,000 in tips across the region with talabat’s UAE-based customers being the highest tippers, contributing over AED 156,000.

The upgraded tipping feature allows customers to include a tip while waiting for the delivery. All tips are fully deposited into the riders’ bank account at the end of the month.
