Trend Micro blocked 46 million threats in UAE during H1 2021. The cybersecurity solutions company has released its Midyear Security Roundup for H1 2021: Attacks from All Angles. The study presents insights on the evolving threat picture from the first half of the year and gives strategic recommendations for executives to safeguard their companies in the digital economy.

According to the research, Trend Micro solutions stopped 40.9 billion email threats, malware files, and malicious URLs for clients worldwide in H1 2021, representing a 47 percent increase year over year. As cybercriminals continued to target high-profile victims, ransomware remained the most prominent threat in the first half of the year. To steal and encrypt the data of its victims, they deployed Advanced Persistent Threat tools and tactics. The banking industry was disproportionately hit, with ransomware attacks up 1,318 percent year over year in the first half of 2021.

Trend Micro solutions in the United Arab Emirates detected and blocked over 15 million (15,643,376) email threats, over 13 million (13,493,892) malicious URL victim attacks, and over 116,177 URL hosts. Furthermore, over 2 million (2,556,685) malware attacks were identified and halted, as well as over 400(456) online banking malware threats.

Home networks in the UAE were also a big draw for cybercriminals wanting to pivot to business systems, devices, and networks, according to the survey. Nearly 10 million (10,259,880) SHN inbound and outbound assaults were blocked by Trend Micro’s Smart Home Network (SHN) solutions, preventing over 4 million (4,627,889) SHN events from executing malware, acquiring sensitive information, intercepting communications, or launching external attacks.

“The threat landscape has been evolving with every passing day and enterprises are being faced with new challenges as modern-day threats continue to plague IT systems in the UAE,” said Majd Sinan, Country Manager, UAE for Trend Micro.

“The Midyear Roundup provides us with a detailed insight on the threat posture in the country and displays an alarming need for companies to re-assess their security stance. It will help IT decision makers to take appropriate decisions to better protect their organizations from the threats of the future and provide a digitally safe environment for its customers.”
