The Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), and other key organizations, has revealed plans to lift restrictions on drone activities in the UAE, effective from 25th November 2024. This phased approach is designed to prioritize airspace safety while ensuring the protection of individuals, society, and property.
Drone operators, including companies and government entities, are required to familiarize themselves with new guidelines, which can be accessed via the UAE Drones mobile app or the official website drones.gov.ae.
As part of this initiative, the GCAA is launching a national platform for drones to streamline operations. This platform will centralize registration, regulations, and operational procedures for drones in the UAE. The first phase of the platform, launching on 25th November 2024, will cater to companies and government agencies, with further phases planned to extend access to individual drone operators in the future.
Companies and government agencies that wish to operate drones will need to apply for operational permits using the UAE Drones smart application. Applicants must also ensure their drones are equipped with a remote identification broadcast system. Operators with drones lacking this feature can contact Etisalat at UAEDrones@eand.com for a suitable tracking device.

Drone-related incidents that cause harm or pose risks must be reported through the UAE Drones platform. This reporting system aims to improve safety standards while safeguarding individuals and property.
The introduction of these new measures supports the UAE’s broader strategic goals, such as the ‘We the Emirates 2031’ vision and UAE Centennial 2071. By enhancing the drone sector, the UAE is positioning itself as a global leader in the adoption of innovative technologies, driving economic growth and technological advancement.
