The US Embassy in Abu Dhabi has warned residents to be on their guard against the latest scam from fraudsters surrounding tender requests for solar generators.
According to an alert from the embassy on social media, the email scam is targeting businesses for payments of false contracts.
Members of the public have been told to ignore emails from Juliana Morgan, Gary Dikens or Michelle Roland, as well as any correspondence from four email addresses: usa@embassytenderdep.com, usa@embassytenders.com, info@embassytendersdep.com, usa2@tendersdept.com, info1@tendersdept.com, supplymanagement@tendersdept.com
Anyone who is contacted by these addresses is urged to notify the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi immediately at: DS_RSOABU_DHABI@state.gov.
A statement from the embassy said: “If you receive an email from any company or individual claiming to represent US Embassy Abu Dhabi, be cautious. Particularly, if you receive an email from a company or individual asking you to contact them and pay any money, be cautious.
“These messages are not from the US Federal Government. Any official correspondence from the US Embassy or an embassy official will be from a properly formatted US Department of State email address ending in ‘@state.gov’ and will have a corresponding embassy telephone number with a local area code.”
The US Embassy has also been made aware of unauthorised calls appearing to be from them, attempting to scam individuals by persuading them their purported offer, such as a university degree, is legitimate.
“If you receive an unexpected call from the US Embassy and are unsure whether the call is legitimate, we advise you to end the call or offer to call the person back by dialling the main Embassy switchboard number +971 2 414 2200,” the embassy said.
