Global Telco AI Alliance Founders Sign JV for Multilingual AI Model

The Global Telco AI Alliance (GTAA) founding members, SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM), Deutsche Telekom, e&, Singtel, and SoftBank Corp., signed a Joint Venture agreement at TM Forum’s DTW24 – Ignite. The agreement aims to develop and launch a multilingual Telco Large Language Model (Telco LLM).

The GTAA founders formalized their commitment to the joint venture initially announced at MWC Barcelona 2024. The venture focuses on creating multilingual LLMs tailored for the telecommunications industry. Founding members will equally invest to meet the initial capital requirements.

The Telco LLM will support languages including Korean, English, German, Arabic, and Bahasa. It aims to enhance customer interactions with advanced digital assistants and AI solutions. Regulatory approvals are pending for the joint venture launch.

The Telco LLM will serve a global customer base of 1.3 billion across 50 countries. The model will deploy innovative AI applications in the founding members’ respective markets.

The GTAR event at DTW24 showcased the GTAA’s progress and future plans. SKT’s CEO Ryu Young-sang emphasized AI’s transformative potential in the telecom industry. Ryu highlighted the Alliance’s role in the global AI ecosystem and the new business opportunities through the Telco LLM JV. He stressed the need for responsible AI governance to address social and environmental impacts.

Panelists included executives from SKT, e&, Singtel, and Deutsche Telekom. Updates on GTAA’s achievements and future AI applications were discussed. The importance of AI governance and Responsible AI practices was emphasized.

Demonstrations highlighted the Telco LLM’s capabilities in enhancing contact center operations. Real-time reference answers for agents and automated post-call tasks were showcased. The model’s ability to streamline infrastructure operators’ workflows was illustrated.

The GTAA’s initiatives underline AI’s critical role in transforming the telecom industry, driving innovation, and improving customer experiences globally. The Telco LLM promises to be a groundbreaking tool in the telecom sector’s future.
