Microsoft (MSFT.O) kicked off its annual Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, unveiling exciting new hardware and game titles. Highlights included a new all-digital version of the Xbox Series X and S consoles, and trailers for over a dozen games, including the highly anticipated next installment of “Call of Duty.”
Microsoft showcased three new gaming consoles: a disc-less version of the Xbox Series X and S, and a special edition Series X with 2 terabytes of storage. This hardware refresh aims to boost Xbox sales, intensifying the competition with Sony’s (6758.T) PlayStation 5.
New Games Unveiled
Among the games revealed was “Doom: The Dark Ages,” the latest in the iconic “Doom” series, alongside a sneak peek at the new “Gears of War” title, marking the end of a five-year wait for fans. Many of these titles, including the new “Doom” and “Call of Duty,” will be available on Xbox Game Pass from launch day, highlighting Microsoft’s focus on enhancing its subscription service amid a softer economy.
Special Feature on ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’
The showcase concluded with a special feature from Activision Blizzard’s studios, spotlighting “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6,” set for release in October. Developers Treyarch and Raven Software shared campaign clips from the early 1990s setting, showcasing a new movement system and the beloved “Zombies” mode.
By introducing all-digital consoles and blockbuster game titles, Microsoft is positioning itself to capture a larger share of the gaming market and attract new subscribers to Xbox Game Pass.
