NTT DATA’s latest report reveals a significant consensus among organizations worldwide: 80% believe that outdated technology is a major barrier to innovation and organizational progress. This finding underscores the critical need for robust infrastructure lifecycle management, highlighted in the company’s inaugural Lifecycle Management Report. Based on extensive data spanning 25 years and encompassing insights from over 1,400 senior technology decision-makers across 130 countries, the report sheds light on the challenges and opportunities inherent in managing technology infrastructure effectively.

Key insights from the report include the widespread concern among C-suite executives, with 94% expressing that legacy infrastructure severely impacts business agility. As organizations grapple with rapid technological advancements and diverse consumption models, maintaining infrastructure that supports agility and innovation becomes increasingly complex. Compounding this issue is the impending obsolescence of more than two-thirds of currently active hardware by 2027, a trend that threatens operational continuity and security.

The report emphasizes that only 51% of enterprises have fully aligned their technology strategies with business needs, while 71% struggle with ageing or obsolete network assets. Such misalignments not only hamper operational efficiency but also expose organizations to risks like security breaches and compliance violations.

To address these challenges, NTT DATA recommends a holistic approach to lifecycle management, advocating for strategies that rationalize technology assets, standardize procurement practices, and optimize costs while enhancing service delivery. Moreover, improved lifecycle management not only boosts operational efficiency but also offers sustainability benefits by extending the lifespan and value of hardware and software investments.

Gary Middleton, Vice President of Networking GTM at NTT DATA Inc., underscores the report’s significance: “Effective infrastructure lifecycles are pivotal for IT management, presenting both opportunities and challenges. By enhancing lifecycle management practices, organizations can unlock substantial business benefits, from heightened efficiency to fostering innovation. Conversely, inadequate management poses significant operational risks. Our report aims to empower organizations to optimize their infrastructure lifecycle processes and reap the rewards they offer.”

In conclusion, NTT DATA’s Lifecycle Management Report serves as a vital resource for IT leaders seeking to navigate the complexities of modern technology environments while ensuring sustainable and agile business operations.
