With the Apple September event coming closer to releasing the new iPhone 14 model along with Apple watch series 8, those using older models of iPhone may have to upgrade out of necessity.
So why the change?
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will stop support for some old android and iOS versions to inculcate new features in the messaging platform. The app will stop its support for iOS 10, iOS 11, iPhone5 and iPhone 5C. So, if users have these operating system versions or phone models they may now have to upgrade or get a new model phone to use WhatsApp.
Information given by the WhatsApp FAQ page shows that it supports and recommends devices that have Android running OS 4.1 and newer; iPhone running iOS 12 and newer: KaiOS 2.5.0 and newer, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2.
According to a report shared by WABetaInfo, users have been asked to update to the latest version of iOS to continue using WhatsApp as the support for the older versions mentioned will stop from October 24, 2022.
WhatsApp will also notify its users whether their operating system will become mute before stopping their support and will be giving them constant reminders to upgrade.
iPhone 5 and 5c won’t be able to get the latest update meaning that WhatsApp won’t be able to work in these models. WABetaInfo said “You can still continue using WhatsApp on iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6S, but you need to update your iOS version. Unfortunately. WhatsApp will no longer be compatible with iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C since iOS 12 is not available for these devices.”
How to update to the latest iOS version?
Users who want to get the newest version of iOS can get so by going to Settings and from there to General options and then tap Software Update.
