Belkin, the renowned global consumer electronics brand, is marking four decades of industry excellence with a significant step towards responsible product manufacturing. Following two years of meticulous development, the company is proud to unveil an eco-friendly makeover for its best-selling mobile power products. Belkin’s top wireless chargers, power banks, wall chargers, and car chargers will now feature revamped product housing materials, composed of 73-75% post-consumer recycled plastics (PCR), accompanied by plastic-free packaging. This transition will be gradually implemented throughout 2023, resulting in a remarkable reduction of 7,000 metric tons of carbon emissions and a 67% decrease in CO2-eq emissions for these products.

This milestone serves as a testament to Belkin’s enduring commitment to sustainability as it celebrates four decades as a market leader and innovator. The company is already making substantial strides towards achieving 100% carbon neutrality in scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025. Belkin’s holistic approach to business improvement extends to its packaging strategy, where they have successfully reduced plastic usage by up to 90% in select products. Today’s announcement reflects Belkin’s comprehensive efforts to mitigate its scope 3 emissions.

Belkin’s decision to transition to PCR materials is a deliberate and conscientious one. By repurposing plastic waste from consumers and diverting it from landfills, Belkin breathes new life into these materials, simultaneously contributing to the circular economy and diminishing reliance on virgin plastics. The company’s conducted Life Cycle Assessment reveals that utilizing PCR material substantially reduces environmental impact.

While Belkin is at the forefront of this sustainable shift, alternative materials are emerging in the industry, including recycled plastic (PIR), bioplastics derived from renewable sources like plants and woodchips, and ocean plastics collected from ocean waste.

Steve Malony, CEO of Belkin, commented, “When we contemplate the profound influence a company of our stature can wield on our planet, the decision to move away from virgin plastics in our products becomes self-evident. I am immensely proud of the teams that have turned this shared vision into a reality. Their unwavering commitment to doing what’s right is truly inspirational, and together, we will continue our journey towards a more sustainable future.”

The following products will feature the new PCR material within the first half of 2023:

– Magnetic Car Vent Mount

– BOOST↑CHARGE™ USB-C PD 3.0 PPS Wall Charger 25W

– BOOST↑CHARGE™ Dual USB-C PD Wall Charger 40W

– BOOST↑CHARGE™ PRO 4-Port GaN Charger 108W

– BOOST↑CHARGE PRO Dual USB-C® GaN Wall Charger with PPS 45W

– BOOST↑CHARGE PRO Dual USB-C® GaN Wall Charger with PPS 65W

From an aesthetic, quality, and engineering perspective, consumers can expect little difference between existing Belkin products and the new PCR products. Clear labeling on packaging and online product pages will help consumers easily identify these eco-conscious products with statements such as “Made with Recycled Plastic Products” and “100% Plastic Free Packaging.”

Belkin’s engineering and product development teams, spanning Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Vietnam, and Taiwan, continue their tireless efforts to innovate and transform the way people interact with technology, all while minimizing their impact on the environment. Belkin remains unwavering in its commitment to quality and ensures that no product enters the market without undergoing rigorous testing and approval processes. For this new PCR portfolio, Belkin has diligently sourced PCR material from reputable resin vendors, rigorously tested it, and validated its viability through the expertise of the design assurance team.
