Sophos, a global cybersecurity-as-a-service provider, has unveiled the Sophos AP6 Series, designed to bolster the transition to hybrid work environments by introducing a new generation of remotely managed Wi-Fi 6 access points. This innovative addition augments Sophos’ robust secure access portfolio, which already includes the Sophos Firewall and Sophos Switch.
Daniel Cole, the Vice President of Product Management at Sophos, highlighted the significance of this development, stating, “With cloud-managed Wi-Fi, Sophos is meeting the growing demand for scalable, remotely managed Wi-Fi solutions that can accommodate the surging number of connected devices and the expanding Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem. Our Sophos AP6 Series, coupled with Sophos Switches, offers channel partners a unified access solution from a single vendor, simplifying the management process and reducing the operational overhead of juggling multiple systems from different providers. Many access layer networks still operate at 1 Gigabit speeds, and with the substantial performance enhancements brought by Wi-Fi 6, the industry has a unique opportunity to modernize wireless network infrastructure. Sophos’ solution effectively eliminates a common bottleneck at the physical layer, significantly enhancing a company’s Wi-Fi infrastructure’s overall performance.”
The Sophos AP6 lineup, featuring models like 420E, AP6 840, AP6 840E, and the outdoor AP6 420X, boasts at least one built-in 2.5 Gigabit interface, ensuring lightning-fast LAN connectivity. When paired with Sophos’ multi-Gigabit switches, which also support 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, organizations can unleash higher network speeds throughout their entire infrastructure. Moreover, the AP6 420E and 840E models, with support for Wi-Fi 6E, tap into the 6 GHz band—a newer, less congested spectrum—delivering top-tier performance for the latest devices.
Sophos’ access points are seamlessly integrated into the cloud-based Sophos Central platform, offering an extensive array of solutions unmatched by any other vendor. This empowers partners to efficiently manage all customer installations, promptly respond to alerts, and effortlessly track licenses and renewal dates, all through a user-friendly interface. Additionally, administrators can access an on-premises interface for configuring on-AP settings as needed.
