Africa is set to accelerate its journey towards becoming a digital powerhouse as GITEX AFRICA 2024 kicks off in Marrakech from May 29-31. The continent’s largest tech and start-up event will see a 70 percent increase in participation from last year, highlighting Africa’s rapid digital growth and ambition to shape its own tech destiny.

Held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and organized by KAOUN International, the event will bring together over 1,400 exhibitors from 130 countries. This includes tech giants, start-ups, investors, and academics, all converging to foster public-private partnerships and advance Africa’s innovation economy.

Key Highlights:

– Rapid Growth: The event will span 21 halls, showcasing a 70 percent year-on-year growth in international exhibitors.

– AI and Digital Transformation: AI’s transformative potential in sectors such as cybersecurity, cloud computing, IoT, finance, telecoms, agriculture, and education will be a central theme.

– Health Tech: The launch of World Future Health Africa will underscore AI’s impact on the digital health revolution.

– Start-up Ecosystem: North Star Africa will feature over 700 start-ups, including 200 from Morocco, aiming to attract significant venture capital investment.

Strategic Goals and Collaborations:

– The event is supported by the Moroccan Ministry of Digital Transition and Administration Reform and the Digital Development Agency (ADD). It is part of Morocco’s broader strategy to leverage digital transition opportunities, as emphasized by King Mohammed VI.

– Institutional partners include the ANRT, ONDA, OCP, Royal Air Maroc, ONCF, and CGEM.

AI and Economic Impact:

– AI is projected to add $1.2 trillion to Africa’s economy by 2030, boosting GDP by 5.6 percent. GITEX AFRICA will focus on harnessing AI for sustainable and ethical development across various sectors.

Leadership and Knowledge Sharing:

– The GITEX AFRICA Digital Summit will feature over 450 speakers from 70 countries, discussing key tech challenges and opportunities. The agenda includes topics on government policy, connectivity, digital cities, future finance, cybersecurity, and the impact of AI.
