New research from LinkedIn reveals a strong climate consciousness among Gen Z professionals in the UAE. Nearly 60% are keen on green jobs, despite only 7% possessing the necessary green skills, and only 30% being aware of available green roles.

Climate Concerns and Eco-Anxiety

72% of UAE Gen Z professionals are concerned about climate change, with 56% experiencing eco-anxiety. This concern drives them to adopt eco-friendly practices and influences their professional choices. A significant 61% would consider rejecting job offers from companies lacking strong green policies.

Green Job Aspirations

Gen Z’s interest in green jobs is driven by environmental protection, perceived job opportunities, and potential financial benefits. However, awareness and training gaps hinder their transition to green roles. Only 16% feel they have access to adequate training.

Support for Green Careers

The UAE’s support for youth-led climate action is evident, but accessible green jobs require more effort. Businesses and policymakers must collaborate to provide the necessary skills and knowledge. Financial support, employer programs, and government incentives are key to encouraging Gen Z to pursue green skills training.

Ali Matar, EMEA Growth Markets Leader at LinkedIn, emphasizes the need for employers to align their green policies with Gen Z values and provide skills-based training. Policymakers should forge partnerships to facilitate workforce transition into green jobs and ensure appropriate training levels across all generations.
