AMD Launches Compact, Cost-Efficient FPGAs for ADAS and Infotainment

AMD is advancing automotive technology with its latest innovation, the Artix™ UltraScale+™ automotive-grade (XA) AU7P FPGAs. Designed to meet the demands of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and infotainment applications, these new FPGAs are optimized for power efficiency and space-constrained environments.

The automotive sector increasingly favors smaller silicon devices for applications in sensors and digital cockpits. According to Yole Intelligence, the ADAS camera market was valued at $2 billion in 2023 and is projected to grow to $2.7 billion by 2029.

To cater to this growing demand, AMD introduces the Artix™ UltraScale+™ XA AU7P, a cost-effective FPGA that is automotive-qualified and tailored for ADAS sensor and in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) applications. This FPGA is available in a compact 9×9 mm package, the smallest ever for AMD’s 16nm FPGAs or adaptive SoCs. The device’s thin and lightweight design makes it ideal for camera vision and in-vehicle display applications. Additionally, it is offered in a chip-scale package that enhances routing/signal density, solder joint reliability, and electrical performance.

The Artix UltraScale+ XA AU7P joins AMD’s portfolio of automotive-grade FPGAs and adaptive SoCs, which includes the AMD Spartan™ 7, Zynq™ 7000, and Zynq UltraScale+ families. Wayne Lyons, Senior Director of Marketing for AMD’s Automotive Segment, stated, “As the automotive market evolves, optimizing form factor, power, and media processing is crucial for automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers. This new Artix UltraScale+ device reflects AMD’s commitment to supporting ADAS and IVI integration.”

Automotive designers are already integrating the Artix UltraScale+ AU7P FPGAs into ADAS edge devices such as thermal and IR cameras. These devices enhance data ingestion and image/video processing for edge sensors and connect to in-vehicle displays, boosting infotainment capabilities.

AMD’s Artix UltraScale+ XA AU7P FPGAs deliver high signal compute density and optimized I/O in the smallest form factor within AMD’s automotive portfolio. They are designed to maximize system performance with high DSP bandwidth for cost-sensitive, low-power ADAS edge applications, including networking, vision and video processing, and security features for safe connectivity.
