Sheikh Hamdan Meets TikTok CEO to Discuss Media Partnerships in Dubai

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister, met with Shou Zi Chew, CEO of TikTok, one of the world’s leading social media platforms. The discussion focused on enhancing Dubai’s media sector through strategic partnerships with global new media technology leaders.

During the meeting, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan emphasized Dubai’s commitment to fostering collaborations that nurture local talent and integrate advanced expertise, reinforcing the city’s position as a vibrant hub for media innovation. “We aim to create an environment where creativity and excellence in media content can thrive globally,” he stated.

The Crown Prince highlighted Dubai’s successes over the past two decades as the epicenter of the region’s media sector, noting that the city continues to attract leading international companies seeking to drive innovation and capitalize on growth opportunities. “Our partnerships are essential for ensuring that the UAE’s media talent keeps pace with advancements reshaping the global industry,” he added.

In line with Dubai’s strategy to promote knowledge exchange in new media tools and content creation, the Dubai Press Club (DPC) will host a roundtable discussion led by Shou Zi Chew tomorrow. Titled “Shaping the Future of Content Creation and Empowering Creativity,” the session aims to explore the evolving landscape of content creation in the UAE and will feature leading content creators from across the region.

Since establishing its regional base in Dubai in 2018, TikTok has seen substantial growth in the MENA region, particularly among younger audiences. The platform’s user base continues to expand rapidly, reflecting strong acceptance and dynamic evolution within the market.

The meeting was attended by prominent figures including H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai; Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence; Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism; and executives from TikTok, including Emir Gelen, Director of Public Policy METAPSA, and Jenan Mohamed Alhashili, Head of Public Policy, GCC.
