The University of Sharjah (UoS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE Space Agency to enhance collaboration in space science, research, technology, and applications, supporting the UAE Space Strategy.
The agreement was signed by Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of UoS and Director-General of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Science, and Technology (SAASST), and Salem Butti Al Qubaisi, Director-General of the UAE Space Agency, at SAASST’s headquarters.
The MoU aims to promote research and development (R&D) in the space sector by focusing on joint projects, fostering the growth of the national space sector, developing space economic zones, and advancing space laboratories. It also includes initiatives to share space facilities at UoS and raise awareness about potential risks in space projects.
Prof. Al Naimiy highlighted the importance of this partnership in aligning with the UAE’s strategic goals for the space sector, saying it will drive innovative research and strengthen scientific infrastructure to benefit local and global communities.
Salem Butti Al Qubaisi emphasized the role of collaboration in fostering sustainable solutions for the national space sector. He noted that the MoU reflects a commitment to building a robust space innovation ecosystem, supporting the UAE’s transition to a knowledge-based economy, and advancing technologies that contribute to long-term development.
