A recent Intel-commissioned survey of 6,000 consumers across Germany, the U.K., and France reveals the significant amount of time people lose to routine digital tasks, such as meeting transcriptions and email drafting. On average, respondents spend nearly 15 hours a week on such “digital chores,” but AI-powered PCs have the potential to reclaim up to 240 minutes of that time weekly, significantly enhancing productivity and offering a chance for users to focus on more meaningful tasks.
Intel’s report, titled “Reclaim Your Day: The Impact of AI PCs on Productivity,” shows that while AI-powered PCs can optimize efficiency, many consumers are still unaware of their benefits. Despite the growing availability of AI PCs, 86% of survey respondents have never heard of or used them, and those who own AI PCs are often spending more time on digital chores than those using traditional PCs. This suggests that a gap in understanding exists, with many users not fully utilizing the potential of AI in their daily routines.
Robert Hallock, Intel’s Vice President, emphasizes the need to educate consumers on how to make the most of AI technology. He noted, “AI PCs offer the chance to boost creativity and productivity, but only if people can learn to use them effectively.” The survey also highlighted the large amount of time spent on administrative tasks, with users dedicating an average of 899 minutes per week to activities such as coding, data analysis, and video editing—tasks that AI could help automate.
Despite AI’s proven capabilities to enhance productivity, misconceptions persist, with 44% of respondents viewing AI PCs as a futuristic gimmick, and 53% believing they are only useful for creative professionals. These findings underline the need for stronger awareness efforts to help consumers understand how AI PCs can benefit their everyday lives.
While the awareness of AI PCs remains low, the survey shows that those who have used an AI-powered PC are far more likely to consider purchasing one in the future. In fact, 64% of those who have used an AI PC would consider buying one for their next upgrade, compared to only 32% of those who are unfamiliar with the technology. German consumers were the most aware of AI PCs, with 28% having either used or owned one, compared to just 8% in the U.K. and 7% in France.
The report also revealed that the most appealing features of AI PCs include real-time language translation, file search optimization, and enhanced cybersecurity. Additionally, 40% of respondents are excited about AI’s ability to learn their habits and deliver a more personalized experience.
AI-powered PCs represent a leap forward in personal computing, combining hardware and software to bring AI directly to the user’s device. This local processing enhances data privacy and efficiency, offering users a more tailored and productive computing experience. Intel’s newly launched Core Ultra 200V series processors are designed to meet these demands, offering up to 120 TOPS (tera operations per second) across CPUs, GPUs, and NPUs, making them ideal for running sustained AI workloads while remaining energy efficient.
The findings of Intel’s survey highlight the growing interest in AI PCs but also underscore the need for better consumer education and awareness. By helping users understand how to effectively use AI, Intel and other tech providers can enable consumers to reclaim valuable time and unlock new levels of productivity.
