NETSCOUT SYSTEMS, INC. (NASDAQ: NTCT) has released its latest DDoS Threat Intelligence Report for the first half of 2023, revealing a staggering surge in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.

Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks have become an ongoing threat for organisations. Using a variety of techniques, a wide range of threat actors from lone hackers, criminal gangs and hacktivists to nation-states are using DDoS attacks to disrupt or disable the performance of target systems.

Darren Anstee, chief technology officer for security at NETSCOUT stated, "Omnis AIF, which incorporates the new DDoS reputation feed, takes an intelligence-based approach providing customers with faster, more comprehensive, and more automated solutions."

DDoS activity subsided in the second half of 2021, confirming NETSCOUT's previous predictions. Prior to the development of the Omicron virus, countries began to emerge from lockdown restrictions, and people returned to in-person education, work, and social gatherings. In turn, DDoS activity dropped by 3% between July AND December 2021, compared to the first half of the year.

Data collected from F5 Silverline – a cloud-based managed services platform that detects and mitigates DDoS attacks in real-time – revealed a 3% year-on-year decrease in the total volume of attacks recorded in 2021.
