The future of commerce and digital payments
According to a study by the University of Oxford, money is a transmission route for bacteria, up to 26,000 per banknote. In many areas, the fear that banknotes or coins are a vehicle for the transmission of infection has caused some establishments or services to prohibit it. Many US restaurants have gone cashless and are using QR codes for menus.

E-commerce and digital payments set for major growth across MENAP
The Checkout.com report shows that the region’s consumers have embraced e-commerce nearly universally, with 90 per cent saying they shop online, including nearly half doing so at least on a monthly basis. According to the report, COVID-19 is driving a significant share of the current e-commerce and digital payment transactions in the region.

Network International supports Careem’s digital payments initiative
The project brings several benefits to Careem, its customers and captains, in addition to supporting the drive towards a cashless economy in the five countries. Most significantly, it will enable Careem’s captains to instantly access money they earn for both cash and non-cash transactions, instead of waiting days for the next payment cycle.
