Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) has unveiled its latest venture, ‘AI71,’ a pioneering AI company focused on decentralized data control for companies and countries. Building on the Technology Innovation Institute’s Falcon generative AI models, AI71 aims to provide multi-domain specializations with unprecedented AI data control options, allowing entities to self-host for enhanced privacy.
The inauguration of AI71 was conducted by H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, alongside key figures from various ministries and representatives of leading multinational technology companies.
While ATRC’s Technology Innovation Institute developed the Falcon 7B, 40B, and 180B large language models (LLMs), the responsibility of bringing AI71 to market across diverse sectors, starting with medical, educational, and legal domains, lies with ATRC’s VentureOne subsidiary. Leveraging access to extensive anonymized data in these verticals, AI71 aims to set itself apart in the AI market, particularly within the UAE’s highly digitized and mature e-infrastructure.
The UAE government’s agile decision-making structure positions AI71 to make responsible AI advancements globally, sidestepping traditional bureaucratic processes. Through strategic partnerships and collaborations, AI71 plans to enable clients to deploy its AI models, benefit from sophisticated data reservoirs, and maintain decentralized data ownership, a crucial aspect for privacy and security.
AI71’s approach emphasizes inclusivity, aiming to make AI technology accessible to a broader audience. The company seeks to redefine Abu Dhabi and the UAE as significant players in the AI landscape, contributing to the country’s knowledge economy. H.E. Faisal Al Bannai, Secretary General of the Advanced Technology Research Council, highlighted the commitment to open-sourcing Falcon AI models, emphasizing the democratization of valuable data resources for societal benefit.
The initial focus of AI71 will be on the medical sector, with plans to revolutionize diagnosis and decision-making processes. Additionally, the educational and legal sectors will witness AI integration, offering nuanced benefits for societal development.
AI71 has established collaborations with seven partners across various domains, including government enablement, AI adoption support, integrated AI solutions development, data labeling services, tech and AI startup scaling, customer use case addressing, and compute power capacity supply.
As AI continues to shape our lives and work, AI71 aims to expand its offerings based on industry demand, fostering widespread AI adoption across the broader economy. The company, through its VentureOne subsidiary, anticipates introducing new specializations to meet growing demand from enterprises, industries, and governments.
