AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) has unveiled the Versal™ Premium Series Gen 2, an adaptive System on Chip (SoC) platform engineered to deliver exceptional performance for a variety of workloads. The new platform introduces groundbreaking technologies, including Compute Express Link (CXL®) 3.1, PCIe® Gen6, and LPDDR5X memory support, setting a new benchmark for system acceleration. These advanced features enable faster and more efficient data transfer between processors and accelerators, addressing the increasing demands of real-time processing and data-intensive applications in industries such as data centers, communications, test and measurement, aerospace, and defense.
The Versal Premium Series Gen 2 enhances system throughput and memory resource utilization, empowering organizations to tackle their most demanding applications. By leveraging CXL 3.1 and PCIe Gen6, the platform delivers industry-leading host CPU-to-accelerator connectivity, providing 2-4X faster line rates compared to competing FPGAs with PCIe Gen4 or Gen5 support. With the integration of CXL 3.1 and PCIe Gen6, the platform offers double the bandwidth of competing devices with CXL 2.1 at similar latencies, along with improved fabric and coherency capabilities. This enhanced connectivity allows businesses to meet the growing demands of high-performance computing.
The LPDDR5X memory used in the Versal Premium Series Gen 2 boosts memory bandwidth up to 8533 Mb/s, offering 2.7X faster host connectivity than devices with LPDDR4/5 memory. Additionally, the platform supports scalable memory pooling through connectivity to CXL memory expansion modules, optimizing memory utilization and increasing bandwidth and capacity across multiple accelerators. By dynamically allocating a memory pool for various devices, Versal Premium Gen 2 adaptive SoCs ensure greater efficiency and performance in complex systems.
In addition to performance gains, the Versal Premium Series Gen 2 strengthens data security with the industry’s first support for PCIe Integrity and Data Encryption (IDE) in hard IP. This integrated security feature ensures that data is protected both in transit and at rest, while the 400G High-Speed Crypto Engines enable secure data transactions at up to twice the line rates of competing devices. With these advanced security features, the Versal Premium Gen 2 offers faster, more secure data processing for mission-critical applications.
Development tools for the Versal Premium Series Gen 2 are expected to be available in Q2 2025, with silicon samples set for release by early 2026. Production shipments are anticipated to begin in the second half of 2026. This new SoC platform underscores AMD’s commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions for data-driven industries, offering unmatched performance, scalability, and security for the most demanding workloads.
