In partnership with Garena Free Fire, Huawei’s AppGallery, one of the top three application marketplaces, successfully organised the first edition of the AppGallery Gamers Cup. The event took place from December 8th to December 29th, 2021, and elite gamers from all around the Middle East and North Africa competed in large numbers in each category. Oxygen, the winning squad, received $15,000, while NA9ABA STARS N, the runner-up, received $10,000. The second-placed team, Miracles, received a $5,000 award.
In the spirit of the event, the captain of the winning team Oxygen highlighted, “It is indeed a great opportunity for budding mobile gamers in the region to showcase their skills and be given a platform to contribute in the ever-growing gaming arena. This virtual tournament has allowed players from different parts of the MENA region to come together and witness truly transformative and energetic gameplay. Finally, I would like to express my thankfulness for this opportunity; it was a unique experience.”
The event drew people from 13 countries, including Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Qatar, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Libya, Jordan, and Iraq, with over 4,000 people registering. A total of 424 female gamers competed across all categories at the tournament.
Participants, viewers, and supporters were able to watch a live-stream of the action on AppGallery and Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) social channels, which included guest commentary from Amr “Origin,” Sofian “Makaveli,” and Boughrib.
Garena Free Fire, the first mobile battle royal e-game to reach this milestone, has been downloaded over 1 billion times on Android devices alone. Garena Free Fire and a slew of other mobile games are free to download on AppGallery, one of the top three app marketplaces in the world, with 560 million users spread over 170 countries.
The AppGallery Gamers Cup will be hosted once more, attracting gamers from all across the region and beyond.
