Axis Communications, a global leader in network video technology, has launched a network security device equipped with an embedded secure element validated to the FIPS 140-3 Standard Level 3. This innovation provides enhanced security for customers in government and critical infrastructure, ensuring compliance with the stringent requirements set by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The FIPS 140-3 certification covers four levels of security, with Level 3 requiring tamper resistance and identity-based access control. The secure element, EdgeLock® SE052F, is supplied by NXP® Semiconductors, a global leader in secure connectivity solutions. NXP is known for its trusted technology used in smartphones, bank cards, and passports.

Axis Communications plans to extend FIPS 140-3 certification to a wide range of its upcoming network products, covering applications from surveillance to business analytics, access control, and audio systems. This means that even organizations not legally required to meet FIPS standards can benefit from Axis’s security advancements, ensuring long-term protection and interoperability of their systems.

As part of its multi-layer security approach, Axis continues to invest in hardware-based cybersecurity solutions like the Axis Edge Vault. This platform not only offers secure storage of cryptographic keys but also includes features like secure boot and Axis device ID compliance with IEEE 802.1AR standards, ensuring the authenticity and security of Axis devices.
