‘World Unseen’ Exhibition Premieres in Africa

A highlight of Canon’s presence at GITEX Africa is the African premiere of its ‘World Unseen’ campaign. This unique photography exhibition allows people with sight loss to engage with the visual world and encourages sighted individuals to view imagery through different perspectives.

The ‘World Unseen’ campaign underscores Canon’s commitment to accessibility and inclusivity in the arts. This sensory-rich experience transforms how both sighted and visually impaired individuals engage with photography. The exhibition, featuring works by renowned photographers Muhammed Muheisen and Yagazie Emezi, includes elevated prints, audio descriptions, soundscapes, and braille, making photography an immersive and inclusive art form. The exhibit was inaugurated by Her Excellency Ms. Aawatif Hayar, Minister of Solidarity, Social Inclusion, and Family, alongside Mr. Hamid Nabil, the first blind Moroccan student to earn a Ph.D.

Inaugural Remarks

Her Excellency Aawatif Hayar remarked on the exhibition’s significance:

“Canon’s ‘World Unseen’ photography exhibition marks a significant step towards fostering inclusivity and reshaping perceptions for those with sight loss. By making art accessible through elevated prints, audio descriptions, soundscapes, and braille, Canon challenges societal perceptions and empowers everyone to participate fully in life. This exhibition invites us to experience images from a different perspective, fostering empathy and understanding, and exemplifies the profound impact that art and technology can have on personal development and social inclusion.”

 Accessibility in Photography

According to WHO data, 2.2 billion people globally have some form of visual impairment, which often restricts their ability to enjoy photography. The ‘World Unseen’ exhibition breaks down these barriers, offering a unique, accessible, and immersive way to experience and enjoy photography.
