Cerabyte, a ceramic-based data storage solutions company, has announced a strategic investment from Pure Storage, an advanced data storage technology company. This investment is set to enhance Cerabyte’s mission to provide sustainable and immutable data storage solutions. Additionally, John (Coz) Colgrove, Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of Pure Storage, will join Cerabyte’s Board of Directors.
Cerabyte aims to revolutionize data storage with its cutting-edge ceramic technology, designed to store digital records for extended periods. Pure Storage’s investment will support Cerabyte in extending its mission and integrating its solutions with Pure Storage’s industry-leading platform.
John (Coz) Colgrove expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “Pure’s investment in Cerabyte and our joint efforts will enable us to offer sustainable, immutable data storage solutions that are transforming the industry. This collaboration will disrupt the archival storage market, leading to more durable and manageable long-term storage solutions.”
Cerabyte’s technology promises to deliver a new standard of permanent and eco-friendly data storage, capable of scaling from petabyte to exabyte-sized data center racks. The ceramic storage media is designed to hold data for extended periods without power consumption.
John Monroe, Chief Analyst at Furthur Market Research, highlighted the need for innovation in storage solutions, noting, “The global demand for zettabyte-scale archival storage has been poorly met by costly and energy-intensive solutions. Cerabyte’s technology, alongside traditional options like tape, will be crucial for addressing enterprise customers’ needs for secure, immutable, and sustainable data storage.”
Cerabyte’s ceramic storage technology prevents issues such as bit rot and silent data corruption, ensuring the preservation of data integrity. This capability is increasingly vital in the AI era.
Christian Pflaum, CEO of Cerabyte, commented on the partnership: “As we approach the Yottabyte Era, sustainable data storage solutions that reduce the need for data migration and lower energy consumption will be essential. We are excited to work with Pure Storage and welcome John Colgrove to our Board of Directors as we advance our ceramic data storage technology.”
