DEWA has introduced a groundbreaking digital-first method for evaluating critical infrastructure, including power transformers and overhead lines (OHL). This innovative approach eliminates the need for on-site sensors or hardware installations, relying solely on asset data and geographic locations.

The new system adheres to ISO 9223:2012 standards for assessing atmospheric corrosivity and estimating OHL conductor corrosion rates. For power transformers, the model incorporates IEC 60067-7 standards, using ambient external temperature as a predictive factor. DEWA’s Research and Development (R&D) Centre has also designed a user-friendly interface (UI) to deliver actionable insights, fostering data-driven decision-making and operational efficiencies.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, highlighted the initiative’s role in enhancing efficiency and reliability, stating, “By deploying Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, DEWA maintains world-class service levels and accelerates our digital transformation journey, supporting our leadership in the global utilities sector.”

Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, emphasized the Centre’s commitment to cutting-edge technology, noting, “DEWA’s R&D Centre equips its staff with global technologies and world-class facilities to foster innovation and address utility needs.”

The Centre utilized weather modeling to analyze historical data over the past five years, digitally assessing the impact of weather on asset metrics. This data aids maintenance teams in optimizing schedules, informs operational and investment planning, and estimates the Remaining Useful Life of assets to enhance their utilization.
