The DFC and Africa Data Centres, in a joint statement, have reaffirmed their mutual commitment to bolstering ICT infrastructure across Africa. This commitment includes Africa Data Centres’ plan to allocate a portion of its existing $300 million DFC-financing commitment to the construction of a groundbreaking data center in Ghana. This strategic investment aligns with the organization’s broader goal to enhance ICT infrastructure in Africa, reflecting the Ghanaian government’s dedication to nurturing the nation’s technology industry.
Africa Data Centres, a subsidiary of Cassava Technologies group, is pleased to announce the renewal of its partnership with the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to fortify ICT infrastructure across the African continent. The statement underscores DFC’s ongoing interest in supporting Africa Data Centres’ expansion in DFC-eligible countries, including Ghana. In Ghana, Africa Data Centres intends to utilize a portion of its $300 million DFC financing commitment to establish a cutting-edge data center with a capacity of up to 30MW of IT load.
Hardy Pemhiwa, President and CEO of Cassava Technologies, commented, “Ghana has embarked on a transformative journey over the last decade, with a particular focus on its burgeoning technology sector. With a youthful and dynamic population, supportive government policies, and a thriving startup ecosystem, Ghana is poised to become a prominent technology hub in the next five years.”
DFC CEO Scott Nathan emphasized, “DFC’s support for Africa Data Centres underscores our commitment to 21st-century infrastructure and the United States’ dedication to ensuring secure and trusted ICT infrastructure that connects communities to global opportunities. Markets with reliable technology and robust data storage can attract businesses that generate jobs and foster growth in high-growth sectors. As this planned facility becomes operational, it will contribute to the development and economic prosperity of communities throughout Ghana.”
Ghana’s continued attractiveness to infrastructure investments is vital for solidifying its position as an emerging technology hub in the coming years. This statement represents a significant step toward realizing this objective. DFC, Africa Data Centres, and the government are jointly celebrating their ongoing commitment to strengthening ICT infrastructure in Ghana.
With this statement, Africa Data Centres reinforces its commitment to inclusivity, aiming to bring the benefits of the new data center directly to Ghana. The facility will allow locally generated data to stay within the country’s borders, and its presence will further attract international digital entities to invest in and support Ghana’s digital aspirations.
Public-Private Partnerships are instrumental for the overall development and expansion of any economy. This partnership between Africa Data Centres and DFC underscores the pivotal role that technology will play in ensuring Ghana’s continued growth as a digital economy. Pemhiwa concluded, “The Ghanaian government has wisely recognized the potential of the technology industry and has taken proactive measures to foster its growth.”
