Dubai Centre for AI (DCAI), in collaboration with Microsoft, IBM, and Rootcode, orchestrated a workshop with the objective of delving into the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in both government and private sectors. The focus extended to governance frameworks for AI tools, ensuring alignment with swift technological advancements.
This initiative aligns seamlessly with DCAI’s overarching goals, which encompass fortifying global partnerships and fostering an interconnected community comprising government entities, technology firms, and entrepreneurs. DCAI seeks to establish a platform for global innovation, fostering initiatives and programs that endorse the application of emerging AI technologies.
The workshop featured a panel discussion with prominent figures such as Maitha Alsuwaidi, Chief Operating Officer at Microsoft UAE; Mostafa Zafer, Vice President of Data, AI, and Automation at IBM; and Saeed Al Falasi, Director of Dubai Centre for AI. Alagan Mahalingam, Founder and CEO at Rootcode, moderated the panel.
Panelists underscored the criticality of well-crafted AI strategies for government and private sectors, emphasizing the utilization of AI capabilities to attain institutional objectives in both the short and long terms. The discussion encompassed future scenarios for AI’s role in shaping government policies and public services over the next decade, along with a thorough exploration of ethical considerations to ensure responsible and equitable deployment of AI technologies.

Addressing Microsoft’s commitment, Maitha Alsuwaidi highlighted the company’s support for Dubai and the UAE’s aspirations to become a global technology and innovation hub. She also shed light on Microsoft’s programs designed to assist startups and enterprises in integrating AI to optimize business efficiency.
Skills development
Mostafa Zafer stressed the imperative need for government and private sectors to concentrate on developing foundational future skills, essential for navigating the AI era successfully. He elaborated on IBM’s endeavors in AI technology development, emphasizing their role in enhancing business efficiency, fostering innovation, and shaping new business models.
Sharing local and global expertise
Saeed Al Falasi, as the Director of DCAI, emphasized the pivotal role of knowledge and expertise sharing among government and private entities. He highlighted the importance of expediting AI deployment in advancing government services by upskilling public sector employees and providing them with the necessary tools.
Al Falasi stated, “DCAI is dedicated to leveraging its partnerships with government entities and global tech giants to formulate legislation related to modern technology usage. The center also delves into the ethical and social impacts of AI applications, exploring crucial laws, policies, and regulations governing these technologies. DCAI remains steadfast in empowering promising national talents and expertise in the AI field.”
