Dubai Hosts 30th ITS World Congress, Showcasing Future of Mobility

Under the esteemed patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, the 30th Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) World Congress and Exhibition was officially inaugurated by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai.

This prestigious global event, held for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, is taking place from September 16th to 20th at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Organized by the European Intelligent Transport Systems Organisation (ERTICO) in collaboration with ITS America and ITS Asia-Pacific, the event is themed “Mobility Empowered by Intelligent Transport Systems.”

The congress is set to attract around 20,000 participants and visitors from over 100 countries, making it the largest edition in its history. Featuring 800 speakers, 200 discussion sessions, and over 500 exhibitors, the event provides a key platform for global leaders in intelligent transport and sustainable mobility.

The opening ceremony, attended by senior officials and international experts, highlighted the importance of intelligent transport systems in shaping the future of urban mobility. H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed was welcomed by Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), and Dr. Angelos Amditis, Director General of ERTICO. H.H. also attended a keynote speech by renowned futurist Dr. Michio Kaku, who emphasized the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and scientific innovation on mobility.

Dubai’s hosting of the ITS World Congress is a testament to the city’s leadership in smart mobility and intelligent transport systems, including autonomous vehicles, AI-driven transport solutions, and cutting-edge digital technologies. The RTA’s Smart Self-Driving Transport Strategy aims to convert 25% of all transport journeys into autonomous trips by 2030, positioning Dubai as a global leader in sustainable, intelligent mobility.

The event will feature discussions on key topics such as Urban Mobility, Innovation in Transport, Sustainable Mobility, and Autonomous Transport, addressing pressing challenges and future opportunities in the transportation sector. The exhibition showcases the latest advancements in intelligent transport technologies, providing a dedicated platform for start-ups to present their innovative solutions.

Prominent keynote speakers include Roger Millar, Secretary of Transportation at the Washington State Department of Transportation; Susanna Zammataro, Director General of the International Road Federation (IRF); and Abbas Mohaddes, Chairman of Umovity, USA.

The ITS World Congress serves as a hub for global leaders, industry experts, and decision-makers to collaborate on building smarter, more sustainable transport systems, driving the future of mobility.
