SANS Institute, a global cybersecurity training and certifications institution, has revealed its upcoming flagship training program, SANS Riyadh Cyber Leaders 2023. Set to take place from August 20 to 24, 2023, at the prestigious JW Marriott Hotel Riyadh, this intensive course is specially designed to empower security leaders in effectively managing risks, leading high-performing security teams, and proactively strategizing against complex threats.

Saudi Arabia has demonstrated its commitment to bolstering its cybersecurity infrastructure and awareness about cyber threats through significant investments by both the government and private organizations. The country’s efforts have paid off, as evidenced by Saudi Arabia securing an impressive second place in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) last month, affirming the nation’s efficient and sustainable cybersecurity ecosystem. Nonetheless, the cyber landscape has evolved, with threats becoming increasingly sophisticated and widespread, necessitating constant vigilance from governments, organizations, and individuals to stay ahead of cybercriminals.

Ned Baltagi, the Managing Director for the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa at SANS Institute, emphasized the need for a cybersecurity-aware culture within organizations. He highlighted the crucial role of leaders in responding quickly and effectively to cybersecurity breaches to minimize damage and ensure business continuity.

Baltagi stressed the significance of training in developing competent leaders who can safeguard organizations against cyber threats, manage risks, and align security efforts with business objectives. Understanding risks is crucial for making informed decisions on resource allocation and prioritizing security initiatives. Furthermore, cybersecurity leaders must align security objectives with broader business goals to contribute to the overall success of the organization.

The SANS Riyadh Cyber Leaders 2023 program will feature two modules led by certified industry experts and practitioners. The first module, MGT512: Security Leadership Essentials for Managers, led by Brian Ventura, will equip participants with the skills to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, foster collaboration between various departments, and proficiently plan and manage security projects and initiatives. The second module, MGT514: Security Strategic Planning, Policy, and Leadership, led by Mark Williams, will enable leaders to bridge the gap between security staff and senior leadership by strategically planning the construction and execution of effective security programs.

Highlighting the urgency to nurture cybersecurity professionals with strong leadership capabilities, Baltagi emphasized that SANS Riyadh Cyber Leaders will contribute to bridging the skills gap. The program aims to cultivate individuals who can lead teams, make informed decisions, and devise strategic plans to safeguard their organization’s data.

Scheduled from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM AST (except for August 20 – 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM AST), the SANS Institute offers both in-person and virtual Live Online training formats, enabling participants to select the option that best suits their preferences and schedules.
