The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) proudly represented the UAE at COP29, hosted in Azerbaijan this year. COP29 gathered global leaders to discuss strategies for accelerating climate action and promoting sustainable development across all sectors. The UAE delegation highlighted national efforts in sustainable construction and innovative approaches to reducing environmental impact in infrastructure.

MoEI’s participation reinforced the country’s proactive stance on climate change, showcasing solutions aligned with UAE’s green vision. Throughout the event, the Ministry conducted engaging sessions addressing eco-friendly construction, energy efficiency, and digital transformation in infrastructure. Speakers emphasized the importance of embracing innovation to reduce carbon footprints and achieve long-term environmental sustainability.

One major highlight was the presentation by Engineer Nisba Al Marzooqi, a leading voice in infrastructure innovation and research. As Director of Studies, Research, and Development, and CEO of Innovation, she introduced a groundbreaking digital twin platform. The 3D digital twin platform creates accurate virtual replicas of critical UAE infrastructure, including roads, buildings, and dams. It uses real-time data and simulations to mirror real-world conditions and performance of physical infrastructure assets.

This platform allows engineers to detect faults early and plan preventive maintenance to avoid costly breakdowns. It improves decision-making by providing predictive insights, reducing risks, and enhancing operational efficiency across infrastructure projects. By optimizing resource utilization, it helps reduce waste, energy consumption, and environmental impact during construction and maintenance.

Digital twin technology also supports strategic planning and emergency preparedness through simulation of different scenarios and outcomes. MoEI’s use of digital innovation highlights the country’s commitment to future-ready, sustainable infrastructure solutions. This initiative complements national sustainability strategies such as the UAE Net Zero 2050 strategic initiative.

MoEI’s leadership in digital transformation places the UAE at the forefront of smart, climate-resilient infrastructure development. At COP29, the Ministry exchanged insights with global counterparts on integrating technology in sustainable development plans. The UAE’s approach demonstrates how merging innovation with policy can accelerate global climate action and environmental responsibility. Through such global engagement, the UAE strengthens partnerships and promotes shared climate goals with international stakeholders.

The digital twin project stands as a model for how technology can drive impactful, scalable solutions in infrastructure management. MoEI’s efforts reinforce the UAE’s role as a trailblazer in sustainable construction and smart infrastructure innovation. By sharing successes at COP29, the UAE inspires other nations to adopt tech-driven approaches for sustainable growth.
