Abu Dhabi Police has adopted IDEMIA technology to improve road safety and deploy new and improved technological solutions to future-proof the emirate’s road infrastructure.

There are over 700 traffic enforcement and management options available. To increase safety, promote respectful behaviour on the roadways, and safeguard the lives of both pedestrians and drivers, IDEMIA’s MESTA fusion technology will be placed across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. MESTA Fusion is a non-intrusive and powerful combination of cutting-edge technologies that combines a multi-target tracking radar with a high-resolution camera to function flawlessly across numerous traffic lanes. Furthermore, this bespoke technology equipment, developed in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Police and Alliance Traffic Systems, will provide additional functionality and weather monitoring to protect all road users. This innovative solution‘s external housing is developed and built to meet the capital city’s urban design needs. The MESTA fusion technology allows for the management of any complicated metropolitan design involving the analysis and processing of all vehicle paths.

This collaboration is in accordance with Abu Dhabi’s recently announced road safety strategy, which will help the Emirate achieve the UAE’s National Agenda 2021 goals of drastically reducing road traffic deaths.

Major Muhammad Abdullah Al Zaabi, Head of the Traffic Technical Systems Section at the Security Systems Department, the Information and Communication Systems Center in the Leadership Affairs Sector of the Abu Dhabi Police, emphasized the General Command’s interest in enhancing the public’s sense of security and safety on the roads, as well as strengthening links and trust between the police and society,

He pointed out that the efforts of Abu Dhabi Police continue in coordination with the Department of Transport and the Abu Dhabi Municipality to improve traffic safety conditions for pedestrians, Among  the most prominent results achieved in this aspect are the construction of bridges on internal and external roads, the improvement of pedestrian crossings, the provision of surface corridors controlled by light signals, and the closing of gaps in the fences on the roads, which includes the enhancement of public safety.

Al Zaabi pointed out that the cooperation with IDEMIA and the Traffic Systems Alliance will achieve the aspirations of the police leadership in enhancing safety and security for drivers, pedestrians and road users, stressing the prominent role of the two parties as experts in traffic management solutions, in order to facilitate safe movement on the roads.
