The IT Engineer will work with teams that manage and maintain systems and services in one or more university technology infrastructure areas, such as system administration, application development and support, network management, or information security.

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor, triage, resolve or escalate IT Service Desk tickets assigned to the team’s escalation queue based on priority.
  • Perform real-time monitoring of various IT Infrastructure components to ensure services are available by taking proactive actions and responding to alerts or notifications from the various monitoring tools.
  • Assist in the design and delivery of technology training and awareness sessions or workshops as assigned and when needed.
  • Conduct research on software or products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to application configurations, mapping, processes and service records.
  • Develop or participate in development tasks of various software applications, front-end, back-end, mobile or web development, and databases design and development.
  • Use scripting and automation tools to identify opportunities for improvement and workload reduction.
  • Assist in the management, operation and administration of various systems, devices or various other infrastructure components.
  • Provide support and assistance to senior engineers, developers and specialists in the team when assigned and as necessary.
  • Ensure that recommendations and principles of systems security controls are maintained and adhered to, including system event logging, security monitoring and reporting, security policies and hardening, user access management, disaster recovery and restoration procedures, software and hardware patching and more.
  • Participate in various IT projects as needed.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in an information technology related field.
  • IT certifications in related technologies (e.g., VMware VCP, CISSP, Linux+, AWS/Azure, MCSE, SCCM, ITIL, Apple ACSP, PMP, Network+, CCNA, A+).
  • Knowledge of Windows, macOS and Linux, including desktop and server flavors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and to effectively work with faculty, staff and students on the use of technology.
  • Experience with scripting, development and automation methods (Bash, Python, Perl, PowerShell)
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-demand environment.
  • Adaptability to change and great critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
