Samsung’s One UI 6.1 Update Widens Galaxy AI Availability

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has unveiled a significant expansion of its Galaxy AI capabilities with the introduction of the new One UI 6.1 update. This update aims to democratize mobile AI by bringing Galaxy AI features to a wider range of Galaxy devices. Scheduled to commence rollout by the end of March, the update will cover devices including the Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and Tab S9 series.

The latest enhancement follows the recent launch of the Galaxy S24 series and promises to elevate users’ mobile AI experience through a hybrid approach that blends on-device and cloud-based AI technologies.

TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, emphasized the company’s commitment to making AI more accessible, stating, “Our goal with Galaxy AI is not only to pioneer a new era of mobile AI, but also to empower users by making AI more accessible.” Roh added that Samsung plans to extend this experience to over 100 million Galaxy users by the end of 2024, continuing to innovate in leveraging the potential of mobile AI.

The expanded Galaxy AI features offer users enhanced communication capabilities, including adjusting message tones and translating messages in 13 languages using Chat Assist. Additionally, Live Translate provides real-time voice and text translations during phone calls, while Interpreter facilitates spontaneous conversations with locals through split-screen text translations.

Productivity gains are also highlighted with features like Circle to Search with Google for improved search functionality and Note Assist for formatting, summarizing, and translating notes. Browsing Assist offers comprehensive summaries of news articles, while Transcript Assist simplifies meeting transcriptions and translations.

Samsung’s focus on creativity is evident with AI tools that enable post-photo enhancements. Generative Edit allows users to resize, reposition, or realign objects in photos, while Edit Suggestion streamlines photo editing processes. Instant Slow-mo generates additional frames for slow-motion videos, capturing dynamic moments effortlessly.

Moreover, users can personalize their Galaxy devices with AI-generated wallpapers, showcasing Samsung’s dedication to enhancing user creativity.
