Sony Middle East and Africa is launching the HDC-P50A today, a groundbreaking compact and lightweight multi-purpose camera designed to meet the diverse needs of modern video production. Featuring a 2/3-inch 3-chip 4K image sensor with global shutter function, the HDC-P50A offers unparalleled flexibility in installation and a range of optional licenses.
Building on the success of the Sony HDC-P50, the HDC-P50A enhances capabilities with SDI outputs and advanced IP transmission support through SMPTE ST 2110, a standard increasingly adopted in broadcasting and live production. This integration allows seamless connection to a camera control unit, facilitating operation even from remote shooting locations. The camera also includes an optional variable ND filter unit, HKC-VND50.
The HDC-P50A joins Sony’s expanding Networked Live ecosystem, enabling centralized monitoring and remote operation via the camera control network adapter CNA-2. With its robust 2/3-inch 3-chip 4K image sensor and prism, the HDC-P50A delivers superior color reproduction, making it easy to integrate with existing Sony systems such as the HDC-3500 and HDC-5500 cameras.
Norbert Paquet, Head of Live Production at Sony Europe BV, comments, “With the increasing demand for high-quality video in events like sports and live performances, alongside the need for automation and IP compatibility, the HDC-P50A is designed to address the evolving requirements of the video production industry.”
The HDC-P50A’s compact design offers versatile functionality, making it ideal for challenging shooting environments including hard-to-reach locations and aerial shots. It is compatible with the HDCU-5000 and HDCU-5500 camera control units, as well as the HDCE-TX50 IP camera extension adapter, enabling long-distance connections of up to 10km via single-mode fibre. This feature is particularly beneficial for remote shoots, such as those in golf broadcasts, and supports slow-motion recording at up to 4 times speed in 4K and 8 times speed in HD.
For seamless integration with existing systems, the HDC-P50A’s advanced color matching capabilities complement the HDC-5000 and HDC-3000 series, covering a broad color gamut including BT.2020 and S-Gamut3″.
