The application analyzes live video for human forms and gives users the option of masking humans, faces, or the background in restricted areas using AI-based masking, which is supported in selected Axis cameras with a deep-learning processing unit (DLPU). It allows users to schedule when the privacy app should be applied and removed, for example, using the new functionality during the week and removing it on weekends.

AXIS Live Privacy Shield compares a live camera view to a predefined background scene and applies dynamic masking to areas of change—in this case, moving people and objects. Users can select between transparent color and mosaic masking, as well as the level of masking required and the frequency with which the background automatically updates. Color masking offers the highest level of privacy protection, effectively eliminating the collection of personal data while allowing movements to be seen. Mosaic masking displays moving objects in very low resolution and enables users to better distinguish forms by seeing the colors of an object.

AXIS Live Privacy Shield is appropriate for remote video monitoring or recording in indoor areas where surveillance would otherwise be difficult due to privacy regulations. Its dynamic masking functionality makes it ideal for close-range indoor and outdoor scenes in hospitals, nursing homes, hotels, schools, offices, and stores.
