Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) and e& United Arab Emirates (UAE) have announced the successful deployment of Low Latency, Low Loss, Scalable Throughput (L4S), a time-critical communication technology, marking the first commercial 5G network implementation of its kind in the Middle East and Africa.

L4S, a key component of Ericsson’s 5G time-critical communication solution, plays a vital role in enabling low-latency, high-performance connectivity for real-time media, extended reality, and cloud gaming applications. This breakthrough was demonstrated during a cloud gaming showcase at GITEX Global 2024, where e& UAE’s 5G Standalone commercial network reduced latency by over 50%, delivering a smooth, lag-free experience for live online cloud gamers.

The introduction of L4S enhances e& UAE’s 5G capabilities, supporting time-critical use cases such as industrial control and mobility automation. This innovation is set to drive scalable and sustainable service differentiation across diverse consumer and enterprise applications.

Marwan Bin Shakar, Senior Vice President of Access Network Development at e& UAE, highlighted the deployment as a major step forward for 5G in the region, saying: “This partnership with Ericsson underscores our commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions that meet the evolving demands of enterprises and consumers.”

Ekow Nelson, Vice President and Head of Global Customer Unit for e& at Ericsson Middle East and Africa, emphasized the technology’s impact, noting: “L4S will enhance user experience and accelerate the adoption of next-generation applications, contributing significantly to the future of rate-adaptive services.”

Ericsson’s continued collaboration with e& UAE supports the telecom’s 5G evolution strategy, fostering growth and advancing innovations in the region.
