Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Kyndryl, a provider of IT infrastructure services, have announced a multi-year partnership to enable the UAE’s digital transformation to move forward. By supporting the usage of best-in-class cloud platforms, Kyndryl will assist Etihad in modernizing its IT infrastructure.

“As Etihad continues to evolve, its ability to push the boundaries of innovation and digitalization within the aviation industry is necessary to create the next generation travel experience. The airline looks forward to working with Kyndryl as their expertise in cloud environments will support Etihad in becoming a more agile and sustainable airline,” said Frank Meyer, Chief Digital Officer, Etihad.

“Etihad is long known for embedding innovation into every aspect of its operations and continuously transforming to better serve its employees and guests,” said Vickram Nagi, Managing Director, Kyndryl Middle East, Africa and Turkey.

He added, “We are proud to have been selected by Etihad to help facilitate the next phase of its digital transformation through the use of best-in-breed cloud platforms. This collaboration reaffirms our commitment to support mission-critical technology systems the world depends on every day and to forge strong relationships with leading technology innovators to serve our customers better.”

Etihad’s ability to adapt within the aviation sector and improve its world-renowned guest experience has been aided by innovation and technology. The airline had previously relied on a private cloud infrastructure to support its workloads, but in order to gain more flexibility, it wanted to implement a cloud strategy that included several public cloud environments to serve its workloads.

As a result, Etihad will enlist Kyndryl to collaborate closely with major cloud providers to identify fit-for-purpose cloud platforms tailored to Etihad’s mission-critical workloads. Kyndryl will also assist Etihad in migrating and managing its workloads across the new multi-cloud environment over the next three years.

Etihad will have seamless access to modern cloud services and will be able to integrate the capabilities of any cloud platform thanks to a multi-cloud approach. This will allow for more efficient operations and a faster time to market for new products.
