GlobalData has recognized Huawei as the top leader in its H1 2024 5G market report, “5G RAN: Competitive Landscape Assessment.” This marks the sixth consecutive year that Huawei has achieved this distinction since the report’s inception in 2019, underscoring its consistent innovation and market prowess in 5G technology.

The report evaluates 5G RAN equipment vendors across five critical dimensions, with energy efficiency being a key criterion. Huawei’s portfolio has emerged as the leader across all assessed aspects, highlighting its commitment to delivering exceptional performance, simplified deployment processes, efficient operations and maintenance (O&M), and seamless network evolution.

Huawei’s AAU (Active Antenna Unit) products have been particularly noted for their portfolio diversity, module output power, and compact design. Widely deployed globally, Huawei’s full series MetaAAUs ensure optimal coverage and energy efficiency within minimal site footprint. Additionally, Huawei’s FDD Massive MIMO products, renowned for their compactness and versatility in single-band, dual-band, and tri-band configurations, offer significantly enhanced capacity and coverage compared to conventional 4T4R solutions. Over 100 networks worldwide have adopted Huawei’s solutions, affirming their market acceptance and reliability.

In the realm of RRU (Remote Radio Unit) products, Huawei leads in output power, supported frequency bands, and compact form factors. Notably, Huawei’s tri-band 8T solution supports a wide spectrum range (1.8 GHz, 2.1 GHz, and 2.6 GHz) using advanced wideband technologies. Coupled with FDD beamforming, this solution achieves triple spectral efficiency and improves coverage by 7 dB while consuming 30% less energy than traditional 4T4R configurations.

Huawei’s BBU (Baseband Unit) products excel in capacity, MIMO layering, and narrowband IoT capabilities, facilitating the evolutionary needs of operator networks over the medium and long term.

A key innovation highlighted in the report is Huawei’s “0 bit 0 watt” energy-saving technology, implemented across its AAUs, RRUs, and BBUs. This pioneering approach achieves up to 99% energy conservation at the equipment level, supporting on-demand wakeup functionalities. At the site and network levels, Huawei’s RAN Intelligent Agent optimizes resource allocation based on real-time traffic demands, thereby creating dynamic energy management policies.

Huawei’s continuous leadership in 5G RAN technology underscores its role as a pivotal player in shaping the future of global telecommunications infrastructure.
