Dubai, UAE – In a momentous announcement, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, has officially launched the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI) at Emirates Towers, AREA 2071. This groundbreaking initiative aims to accelerate the integration of cutting-edge technologies across various sectors, with a focus on supporting government entities.

Sheikh Hamdan emphasized Dubai’s commitment to staying at the forefront of global technological advancements, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence. This aligns with the vision set forth by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to position Dubai as a global leader in seizing emerging opportunities and shaping the future.

Highlighting the government’s determination to be a world leader in AI deployment, Sheikh Hamdan stated, “Dubai’s government will be the best in the world in deploying artificial intelligence (AI) within its various entities.” The establishment of the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence marks the initial step towards achieving this objective by developing future services that keep pace with rapid technological advancements.

Furthermore, Sheikh Hamdan urged employees throughout Dubai’s government entities to leverage generative AI tools to enhance productivity and optimize government services. He expressed the desire to witness practical applications of generative AI technologies within the government sector, emphasizing the need for clear impact and tangible results.

The launch event, held at Emirates Towers, was attended by prominent figures, including His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council.

The Dubai Centre for AI has set ambitious goals, aiming to train over 1,000 government employees from more than 30 entities on the applications of generative artificial intelligence. The Centre also plans to launch numerous pilot projects to enhance government services, increase productivity, and support both local and global advanced technology startups.

Sheikh Hamdan expressed confidence in the transformative potential of AI applications, asserting that they will play a significant role in realizing Dubai’s vision for the future. As technological advancements continue to revolutionize various sectors, including healthcare, education, economy, media, and government, the Dubai Centre for AI aims to spearhead these changes for the benefit of society.

The implementation of the Centre’s objectives will be overseen by the Dubai Future Foundation, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dubai Media Council, and Dubai Digital Authority, in collaboration with relevant authorities. Their collective efforts will focus on developing legislation related to AI applications, attracting top global technological solutions, and nurturing national talent.

The launch of the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to leverage the latest AI technologies across diverse sectors. With the generative AI sector expected to expand exponentially, from $10 billion in 2022 to $110.8 billion by 2030, the Centre’s establishment comes at a pivotal time.

With its three main pillars, the Dubai Centre for AI aims to develop legislation for modern technology, study the ethical and social impact of generative AI applications, and ensure their alignment with societal values. The Centre’s role in bolstering the government sector will involve conducting simulations, predicting outcomes, evaluating programs, and supporting decision-making processes.

Moreover, generative AI will enhance government services by predicting user needs and preferences, establishing streamlined communication channels, and providing data-driven insights to aid informed decision-making. By facilitating collaboration among the government, private, and academic sectors, the Dubai Centre for AI will serve as a platform for innovation, driving the development of advanced AI applications and services.

This initiative positions Dubai as a regional leader in AI research, development, and innovation. It aims to foster partnerships with major international technology companies and leading academic institutions, solidifying Dubai’s reputation as a hub for AI advancement.

The launch event was attended by several dignitaries, including His Excellency Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Managing Director of the Dubai Future Foundation; His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications; His Excellency Abdullah Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary General of The Executive Council of Dubai; His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority; His Excellency Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General of the Dubai Digital Authority; and Khalfan Juma Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation.
