In a collaborative effort, Huawei, a prominent provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, and its strategic partner, Mindware, successfully hosted the ISP Summit 2023 in Baghdad, Iraq. The event convened industry leaders to address the increasing demand for broadband services and explore opportunities to expedite the deployment of all-optical Internet and next-generation networks.
The summit, operating under the theme “F5G Evolution Unleashing Green Digital,” served as a platform for industry leaders in the Internet Service Provider (ISP) sector to exchange information on trends in all-optical networks and exhibit leading technologies and solutions in the optical field, with the aim of enhancing Internet infrastructure for smarter and more resilient connectivity. The event featured the participation of notable figures, including executives and technical experts from the ISP industry.
Philippe Jarre, President of Mindware Group, expressed the partnership’s significance, stating, “We are pleased to collaborate with Huawei to provide advanced solutions to ISPs, particularly as Iraq experiences a period of rapid growth. By convening industry stakeholders at the Summit, we were able to showcase how Huawei’s optical solutions can expedite Iraq’s digital transformation. Furthermore, we had the opportunity to engage with our key partners and address the challenges they encounter in their network transformation efforts.”
James Zhang, Managing Director of Huawei Iraq Enterprise Business Group, commented on the current era of network growth, saying, “We are in an era of unprecedented growth where networks are struggling to manage the immense demand for services. Our optical solutions have the capability to address these challenges and usher in the gigabit era. Our ongoing partnership with Mindware continues to provide value to Iraqi customers through exceptional customer service.”
During the concurrent exhibition, Huawei presented its optical innovations, including the Huawei FTTR OptiXstar F30, recognized as the industry’s first all-optical home network product built on the C-WAN architecture. This product supports upstream transmission at 2000 Mbit/s and features significant improvements in aesthetics, speed, rate, coverage, roaming, concurrency, and service, offering extensive Wi-Fi coverage and a high-quality digital home experience.
In the realm of ultra-broadband access, Huawei introduced the industry’s initial commercial 50G PON solution, designed to accommodate the growing bandwidth needs of campuses, industrial interconnections, enterprises, and homes. This solution offers a 25% increase in the optical power budget and can be integrated into existing ODN deployments without requiring re-cabling.
Iraq is currently undergoing substantial expansion in network coverage. In 2022, ITPC, a telecom company under the Ministry of Communications of Iraq, awarded operating rights for optical networks in 15 provinces to 16 ISPs, with the objective of increasing domestic access network coverage to 80% within three years. The ISP Summit 2023 represents another step in the cooperation between Huawei and Mindware, highlighting their commitment to enhancing internet infrastructure and fostering digital transformation in Iraq.
