The highly anticipated 2024-2025 edition of the annual Huawei ICT Competition is set to launch, in collaboration with UNESCO IITE (Institute for Information Technologies in Education). This prestigious global competition offers students from across the Middle East and Central Asia (ME&CA) an exciting platform to showcase their technological skills and passion. Over 30,000 students from 21 countries are expected to participate this year.

The Huawei ICT Competition has been revamped for 2024-2025, featuring a redesigned format aimed at expanding opportunities for youth. For the first time, the National Preliminary and National Final stages will be conducted within each participating country. Additionally, the Regional Final exams and the Competition Training preceding the Global Final will also take place in-country. The competition is open to all students enrolled in Huawei ICT Academies, universities, colleges, and other educational institutions across the ME&CA region.

Steven Yi, President of Huawei Middle East & Central Asia, emphasized the significance of the competition, stating, “The Huawei ICT Competition represents our commitment to making advanced digital skills more accessible to youth across the Middle East and Central Asia. This competition is not just about recognizing talent; it’s about nurturing the digital leaders of tomorrow who will drive innovation and digital transformation in their respective countries.”

This year’s Innovation Competition, now in its third year, will challenge participants to demonstrate their technical innovation and application in the fields of AI and ICT. Contestants are tasked with designing solutions that generate both social and commercial value using Huawei AI-related technologies or by integrating AI with relevant technologies such as IoT, big data, cloud computing, and mobile internet. Participants will develop software and integrated hardware-software solutions to tackle specific industry challenges and real-life scenarios.

The competition will feature Network, Cloud, and Computing Tracks, assessing students’ theoretical knowledge, practical ICT skills, and teamwork abilities. Written exams will be held during the National Preliminary and National Final stages, while lab exams will take place at the Regional Final and Global Final stages.

To support participants, Huawei will provide comprehensive mentorship and training programs, offering students the chance to learn directly from Huawei experts on the latest ICT developments and international trends, as well as gain valuable hands-on skills.

From August to October 2024, Huawei will host a series of roadshows to encourage student registrations throughout the region. The National Preliminary and Finals for all ME&CA countries are expected to occur in October and November, with national finalists receiving specialized training to prepare for the Regional Finals.

At the grand awarding ceremony, Regional Finalists will be honored with prestigious awards, certificates, and gifts. Participants will have the opportunity to win various prizes, including Huawei devices and internship opportunities at Huawei offices in their home countries. The competition will also acknowledge outstanding ICT Academies and instructors for their crucial role in developing ICT talent.

Since its inception in 2017, the Huawei ICT Competition has achieved remarkable growth, with the 2023-2024 edition attracting over 27,500 students from more than 600 universities across 21 countries in the ME&CA region. The competition has received widespread support from UNESCO IITE, along with over 20 regional ministries, operators, and industry partners.
