The Innovation and Digital Development Agency (IDDA), a pivotal institution in Azerbaijan dedicated to advancing the country’s technological landscape, has disclosed its participation in two major events: GITEX GLOBAL and Expand North Star Dubai, the world’s largest gathering of startups and investors, scheduled for October 15-18. IDDA, represented by its Chairperson Inara Valiyeva, Advisor to Chairperson Shahin Aliyev, and Deputy Chairperson Rashad Khaligov, will lead a delegation of three local startups, showcasing Azerbaijan’s thriving innovation ecosystem.
In its inaugural presence at these events, IDDA intends to highlight Azerbaijan’s digital development efforts and the nurturing of an ecosystem for local and foreign ICT enterprises. Through a series of meetings and robust networking, the agency seeks to enhance its knowledge while spotlighting its successful projects, including the dynamic ‘Relocation Program’ and the educational initiative in collaboration with Holberton School.
Inara Valiyeva elaborated on IDDA’s participation, stating, “We are honored to be part of GITEX GLOBAL and Expand North Star Dubai this year, alongside leading figures in the IT market. This is an exceptional opportunity for us to share our unique experience in transforming Azerbaijan’s digital landscape, a country with a rapidly evolving innovation ecosystem. IDDA’s mission is to cultivate innovation, facilitate the development of innovative products and services, and drive economic growth through technology, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation. We achieve this by creating a conducive environment for both local and foreign ICT companies, investing in human capital, and supporting startup infrastructure. Building new business relationships at this event will accelerate our efforts to ensure Azerbaijan’s continuous digital growth and international competitiveness.”
One of the central topics of discussion will be the ‘Relocation Program,’ introduced by the Agency last year to attract global ICT talent and companies. Presently, it boasts over 60 residents benefiting from the technopark residence law implemented in 2023, offering substantial incentives, such as a 10-year tax exemption and no work permits for relocated ICT specialists. Currently, six international companies are in the process of securing technopark residence, with IDDA providing comprehensive support through the program.
In line with its mission to nurture local ICT talent, IDDA has initiated a partnership with the globally acclaimed Holberton School. With over 2,000 applications received and 60 students enrolled in the program, Holberton, renowned for its peer-to-peer tech programs aligned with Silicon Valley standards, will play a pivotal role in developing emerging ICT talent in Azerbaijan.
IDDA also administers the Technest scholarship program, established in 2021, which has already awarded over 3,500 scholarships and aims to increase its recipients to 11,000 by its fourth year, covering up to 100% of tuition for selected candidates.
The IDDA booth will be situated at Expand North Star in the new Dubai Harbour venue, featuring three Azerbaijani startups – Bonpara, SchoolPlus, and Imajin – to exhibit their innovations. Additionally, as a sponsor, “PASHA Holding” will have a reception desk at the IDDA booth.
