LG Magna e-Powertrain, a collaboration between LG Electronics and Magna International, has announced its attainment of the Cyber Security Management System (CSMS, ISO/SAE 21434:2021) certification from TÜV Rheinland, a renowned global certification body. This certification underscores LG Magna’s full compliance with pertinent vehicle cybersecurity standards and its implementation of a comprehensive security infrastructure encompassing component design, development, post-development cybersecurity activities, and management.
In light of the impending WP.29 UNECE R155 cybersecurity regulations, automotive cybersecurity is emerging as a paramount concern within the mobility sector. Effective from July 2024, these regulations mandate that all vehicles manufactured by automotive OEMs must adhere to the newly established suite of cybersecurity management regulations to obtain type approval. This prerequisite applies to selling vehicles in 56 countries, including EU member states, the UK, Japan, and South Korea.
Countries adopting these regulations necessitate automakers to equip all components and systems with cybersecurity measures throughout the entire lifecycle of their vehicles. ISO/SAE 21434, an international standard pertaining to vehicle cybersecurity, delineates the procedures for establishing and maintaining cybersecurity from the planning and development phase to vehicle manufacturing, maintenance, and disposal.
In response to this evolving landscape, LG Magna is fortifying its cybersecurity framework to cater to the escalating demand from global automakers for advanced, highly secure vehicle components. The company has devised a meticulous cybersecurity protocol that is systematically applied and updated across the lifecycle of each product. This protocol encompasses identifying and assessing product security threats, devising suitable response strategies aligned with ISO/SAE 21434 requisites, and instituting risk monitoring systems and processes for expedited issue remediation.
As a trusted innovation partner, LG is expanding its footprint in the global automotive components and solutions market. The Vehicle Component Solutions (VS) Company is renowned for its expertise in in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems, LG Magna specializes in electric vehicle powertrains, and ZKW excels in advanced vehicle lighting systems. Established in 2021, LG Magna has further solidified its reputation as a dependable vehicle components supplier through the acquisition of CSMS certification.
Cheong Won-suk, CEO of LG Magna, remarks, “With the surge in vehicle cyberattacks, the demand from automakers for component solutions guaranteeing robust cybersecurity is burgeoning rapidly. As a prominent global vehicle parts supplier, LG Magna is committed to proactively addressing any security vulnerabilities and continually enhancing its systems and processes.”
