MBZUAI AI Talks has returned, focusing on artificial intelligence in government. Mohammed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) held the latest MBZUAI AI Talks concentrating on AI in government as part of its continuous efforts to enhance knowledge and capacity in AI Researchers, faculty members, students from the UAE and overseas, as well as local technology professionals, attended the webinar, which MBZUAI Provost Professor Fakhri Karray hosted.

H.E. Dr. Mohamed Abdelhameed Al Askar, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority (ADDA), said that data is now being likened to natural resources like oil in terms of its potential economic impact.

H.E. Dr. Al Askar discussed how the UAE and Abu Dhabi have already progressed beyond the hypothetical with tangible AI use cases, citing the UAE’s deployment of machine learning skills to localise a cardiovascular disease risk calculator last year as an example. This is expected to significantly cut operational expenses in the health sector by proactively identifying and treating hazards before they worsen.

In the field of education, HE According to Dr. Al Askar, Abu Dhabi has implemented a programme to predict and improve student performance. Abu Dhabi Digital Authority has also developed a traffic safety and accident prevention technology in collaboration with the police, which uses traffic cameras to detect phone usage and seatbelt violations.

“We have so far identified several high Impact use cases focused on healthcare, economic development, education, municipalities and transport and community development ready for implementation,” H.E. Dr Al Askar said.

AI will have a massive social impact in the future. As we increasingly rely on calls and text, human interaction is becoming increasingly scarce, and the alienation will only worsen as AI’s capability to communicate with humans improves.” H.E. Dr.Al Askar observed.

It’s worth mentioning that the UAE expects a 60% boost in GDP by 2031 as a result of AI investment and adoption across the board. By 2031, this is expected to provide AED 353 billion in economic benefits.
