A recent study by Hays, reveals that 56% of tech professionals in the Middle East are utilizing AI, outpacing their counterparts in Europe. The research, which surveyed 5,014 tech professionals and 6,178 employers across 20 countries in the EMEA region, highlights the Middle East’s progressive stance on AI integration in the tech sector.
While AI adoption is growing across the EMEA region, the Middle East is leading the charge. The data shows that tech professionals in this region are more likely to use AI and receive training in AI technologies compared to those in Europe. In contrast, countries like Italy and France report only 28% and 29% AI usage among tech professionals, respectively.
The report also found that 68% of tech professionals in the GCC region associate AI with increased productivity and efficiency, with 50% already using AI tools for communication. Moreover, 66% of software developers in the region are leveraging AI to write or debug code, further solidifying the Middle East’s position as a leader in AI adoption.
Despite the enthusiasm for AI among tech professionals, the study revealed a hesitancy among decision-makers in organizations. Only 31% of employers in the EMEA region are currently recommending the use of AI, reflecting a cautious approach to AI integration.
Oliver Kowalski, Regional Managing Director at Hays Middle East, commented on the findings: “AI has its risks, but it is here to stay, and those that embrace it will reap its rewards. This new data highlights a competitive advantage for companies in the Middle East looking to hire top tech talent. Middle Eastern tech professionals and companies are a step ahead of their European counterparts, and this should be emphasized when recruiting new hires.”
The study also underscores the strong desire for AI training among tech professionals, with 82% across the EMEA region expressing interest in AI development. This figure rises to 92% in The Netherlands and 89% in Spain, indicating a widespread demand for AI skills.
In the GCC region, 24% of tech professionals have received training or support to adopt AI technologies, a higher percentage than any European country except The Netherlands (27%).
As the Middle East continues to lead in AI adoption, organizations in the region are well-positioned to attract and retain top tech talent by emphasizing their AI initiatives and commitment to innovation.
