First Non-Bentley Family Member to Lead Company, Cumins Unveils Vision for Infrastructure Resilience Powered by AI, Focus on Operations Phase of Lifecycle

Bentley Systems, Incorporated (Nasdaq: BSY) announces Nicholas Cumins as its new CEO, marking a significant milestone as the first non-Bentley family member to lead the company. Cumins succeeds Greg Bentley, one of the five founding brothers, who transitions to Executive Chair of the Board of Directors.

Founded 40 years ago by the Bentley brothers, Bentley Systems revolutionized computer-aided design (CAD) software with the development of MicroStation, a groundbreaking engineering application platform. Over the decades, the company has grown through innovation and over 120 acquisitions, becoming a global leader in infrastructure engineering software. Bentley’s infrastructure digital twin solutions are now integral to designing, building, and operating critical infrastructure worldwide.

Cumins’ leadership begins at a crucial time for the infrastructure sector. The industry faces a shortage of engineers necessary to meet global sustainability targets and adapt aging infrastructure to withstand climate change. In his new role, Cumins aims to address these challenges by leveraging AI-powered digital twin solutions to enhance infrastructure resilience.

“Infrastructure is at a watershed moment,” Cumins said. “Despite the massive capital investment in infrastructure projects and jobs post-pandemic, much more remains to be done to make infrastructure more resilient. Our ability to bridge that gap will determine the quality of life for future generations. AI-powered digital twin solutions are reshaping the landscape, unlocking the value of data across the infrastructure lifecycle.”

Bentley’s AI solutions are already revolutionizing asset monitoring, from roads and bridges to water networks and telecommunications towers. Cumins emphasized the importance of these technologies: “Every owner-operator in the world seeks a simpler, more effective way to understand the condition of their assets. The power and possibilities of AI imply significant improvements in asset performance and infrastructure resilience. This is our generation’s moment to apply ingenuity and build upon our legacy of innovation to advance global infrastructure for a better quality of life.”

Before becoming CEO, Cumins served as Bentley Systems’ COO from January 2022 and as Chief Product Officer since September 2020, prior to the company’s IPO. His extensive experience includes roles as General Manager of SAP Marketing Cloud, Chief Product Officer of Scytl, and Senior Vice President of Product at OpenX. Cumins, a dual French and U.S. citizen, is based in France.
