Nokia has announced a strategic three-year partnership with Zain Iraq to enhance its telecom network in southern Iraq. This collaboration marks Nokia’s debut in the microwave (MW) business with Zain Iraq, focusing on increasing network capacity and modernizing infrastructure to support future growth and rising traffic demands.

Mikko Lavanti, Senior Vice President of Mobile Networks at Nokia MEA, commented: “This deal showcases our local expertise and advanced capabilities. By deploying our cutting-edge microwave solutions, Zain Iraq will benefit from an optimized network that’s ready for future demands, including a growing customer base.”

Emre Gurkan, CEO of Zain Iraq, added: “Our partnership with Nokia enables us to overcome capacity challenges and modernize our infrastructure. With Nokia’s microwave technology and E-band solutions, we’re not only addressing current needs but also preparing for future growth.”

Deployment begins immediately, focusing on optimizing performance and ensuring scalability. Nokia’s advanced microwave technology, including the latest E-band solutions, will upgrade Zain Iraq’s network, increasing capacity and enhancing the customer experience. With rising data demand, Zain Iraq aims to provide top-tier services by expanding its network.

Nokia’s UBT-T XP version, central to this upgrade, offers the highest transmit power in the market, reducing antenna sizes and tower loads. This will deliver significant savings in both capital (CAPEX) and operational (OPEX) expenditures.

This partnership paves the way for future innovations and ensures that Zain Iraq is well-positioned to handle increasing customer demands across the region.
