At this year’s GISEC, the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation – Computer Emergency Response Team (OIC-CERT), an international cybersecurity platform will be announcing the launch of a 5G security working group for all stakeholders of the cyberspace to ensure end-to-end cyber security for OIC member states at the Telecom Cybersecurity Stage.
The launch of the 5G security working group has been initiated to increase awareness on the importance of 5G security, develop a common 5G security framework for risk assessment and management and develop an open standard that can be used to mitigate any technical difficulties in rolling out the 5G.
Engr. Bader Al-Salehi, Chair of OIC-CERT, hoped that this working group shall contribute to the global 5G development by forming a trusted global ecosystem. Engr. Bader added that: “Before 5G technology can deployed, we need to ensure that the security challenges of this technology can be overcome. We believe that this initiative by the OIC-CERT shall assist to resolve some of the security issues and accelerate 5G implementation especially within the OIC community.”
This collaborative approach aims to provide best practices, guidance and promote standardization objectives in an open and transparent platform to accelerate the roll out of 5G among OIC member states in a seamless and cost-effective manner.

Dr. Haji Amirudin Bin Abdul Wahab, CEO of CyberSecurity Malaysia, Permanent Secretariat of the OIC-CERT and representing Malaysia who is a co-chair of the 5G security working group together with Huawei, said: “Huawei has an excellent track record of empowering secure and resilient digital transformations in the UAE and the rest of the world.
