HE. Dr Al Jaber commented that the UAE’s approach to climate action is closely tied to its economic development: “The UAE’s track record and future ambitions in climate action perfectly align with the country’s plans to diversify and build a knowledge-based economy, spur sustainable development across key sectors and bring socio-economic benefits to our country while influencing progress regionally and internationally.”

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, this year’s Majlis takes place under the theme ‘Thriving in the Next Normal’. It seeks to establish communication with youth to expand their knowledge and expertise and empower them.

The event welcomed 78 students who have joined the University from 29 countries. MBZUAI’s first students were selected from thousands of applications received by the University from nearly 100 countries. The first cohort includes 13 PhD students and 65 MSc students, who have enrolled in MBZUAI’s Machine Learning and Computer Vision programs.

His Excellency Dr Al Jaber, who was joined in the virtual meeting by H.E Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Technology, made clear his commitment to working with the ICC and directly with the private sector, in particular, to increase the UAE’s in-country value by nurturing the SME sector and creating sustainable jobs.

MBZUAI has also recently extended admission offers to 100 students for the first academic year commencing in January 2021, with nearly 90 per cent of the admitted students having already accepted their offers.

The MoU was signed virtually by His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Chairman of the MBZUAI Board of Trustees, and Weizmann Institute President Professor Alon Chen.
